Lavochkin.

This is coolbert:

Here with some info on the Lavochkin design bureau.

Soviet aircraft design group from the era of World War Two [WW2].

"named for its head designer, Semyon Lavochkin"

Most famous for the La-7 of WW2!

But for decades now has not been heard from? Went the way of the dodo for some reason that is not discernible? Tupelov, MiG, Sukhoi, Antonov are still going concerns. But not Lavochkin?

NOT EXACTLY!!
"The company was founded in 1937 as the Lavochkin Aircraft Design Bureau . . . named for its head designer, Semyon Lavochkin . . . The bureau was closed in 1960 upon its head designer's death, but was later re-opened . . . to work on interplanetary probe designs"

"NPO Lavochkin (also called Lavochkin Research and Production Association) is a Russian aerospace company. It is a major player in the Russian space program"

"one of Russia's leading companies on development and practical use of funds for unmanned space exploration, the heavenly bodies, as well as for solving problems related to strengthening the country's defense"

The Lavochkin group is still going strong! NOW concentrates on unmanned space vehicles - - still - - however - - concerned with "strengthening the country's defense"!
